A lot has happened in farming in 50 years and now Fieldays organisers want to look ahead to the next 50.

The leading agricultural event at Mystery Creek is entering its third day, with this year marking its 50th anniversary.

Fieldays CEO Peter Nation told Kate Hawkesby the 2018 theme is the future of farming.

He says their founding objectives have always been around innovation, technology and education.

"It's been very focused on that for the fifty years and when we sat down and looked at that theme we thought it was very important to kick off out next fifty years by looking forward."

Nation believes it is the event's sense of community that makes it so popular among farmers and city folk alike.

He says while most news stories focus on sales and numbers through the gate, there's more to it than that.

"One of the big things that Fieldays does for the rural community, and urban people for that matter, is that it brings people together. It's an opportunity for them to meet and spend time together or go and talk to their sales people or the companies they deal with."
