School boards of trustees could be scrapped in a proposed overhaul of the education system.
Tomorrow's Schools, which began in 1989, is up for review.
Education Minister Chris Hipkins says it started off as a community response model but quickly moved to a competitive model.
School Trustees Association President Lorraine Kerr told Kate Hawkesby she isn't too worried they will be canned.
"My reasons for saying that is we are the cheapest thing any government has had working for them."
Kerr says board members only get paid $55 per meeting and chairs get $70 per meeting, which hasn't changed since 1989.
