The Iraq war veteran accused of gunning down people at a busy Florida airport has appeared in a federal court.
Esteban Santiago had confessed to investigators he went to the airport with the intention of carrying out the attack.
The 26-year-old was taken into the courtroom surrounded by US marshals and could face the death penalty.
Authorities haven't ruled out terrorism as a motive and are investigating whether mental illness played a part.
