No word yet on who will replace James Comey as director of the FBI.

It's rumoured current acting FBI director Andrew McCabe, or Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas, could be in line for the position.

US correspondent Scott Malone said that President Trump is due to leave on Friday on his first international trip since being in office, and he may make his pick before he leaves.

However, Mr Malone said even if this is the case, the Senate may block Trump's nomination.

"Today we've seen Senator Chuck Schumer - who is the senior Democrat in the Senate - coming out and saying that the Senate may not vote to approve anybody that Trump nominates without a special prosecutor being named to look into his potential ties to Russia."

At least eight candidates for the FBI's top job have been interviewed in the week since Comey's dismissal.
