UPDATED 2.27PM There's little sympathy from the federal MP of north Queensland, for a woman taken by a crocodile during a late-night dip.

Cindy Waldron, who was originally from Hamilton, is still missing after she and a childhood friend went swimming in the Daintree Rainforest on Sunday night.

Australia Correspondent Donna Demaio told Rachel Smalley Federal MP Warren Entsch is adamant the tragedy was avoidable.

"He calls it the result of human stupidity, this is a woman who went swimming we believe late at night, at a beach where there are many warning signs."

Tourism Tropical North Queensland CEO Alex de Waal told Kerre McIvor and Mark Dye the accident was the result of a bad personal choice.

Mr de Waal said while they're incredibly sorry to hear of the family's loss, they went swimming at 10:30 at night, in front of signage that warned them not to.

He said if you do that there is going to be a consequence.

But a crocodile expert said people make mistakes - and there's a lot of living things in northern Australia that'll kill you.

Mick Pitman aka Crocodile Mick said it's a dangerous area - along with the crocodiles there are box jellyfish, and everything in between.

He said Mr Entsch's lack of compassion is ridiculous.

"I've already served that area not long ago and there's not that many crocs but there are a couple of big ones."

Donna Demaio said the incident has happened exactly 30 years on from an almost identical incident.

"Another woman in her 40s, in the same area was taken by a five metre croc. She also made the fatal decision to take a late night dip."
