Family and friends gathered to say their final farewells to Alana Madill at a poignant service held in Canada overnight.

Alana Madill, and her partner, former All Black Jerry Collins, were killed when their car was struck by a bus on a French motorway on June 5.

While 34-year-old Collins was laid to rest in an emotional funeral attended by thousands including the Madills, friends, fans, and former teammates at Porirua's Te Rauparaha Arena on June 17, Ms Madill's family and friends have had to wait to say their final goodbyes as they have been caring for the pairs daughter Ayla.

Yesterday, Madill's sister, Nora Dureau said her family were finalising details for Madill's funeral, which took place overnight at the All Saints Anglican Church in the Saskatchewan city of Regina.

In a post to her Facebook page ahead of the funeral, Ms Dureau said: "Never has a day come that I've put so much effort into...that I wished would never come...I miss you."

Collins' mother, father, and sister all attended the funeral, TVNZ said, and Collins father, Frank, paid his own tribute: "I rush home and I open the door and see this huge palagi girl, a lovely palagi girl who changed my son for good."

Both Ms Dureau and Ms Madill's other sister Brenna, also gave emotional tributes at the service.

According to TVNZ Ms Dureau said: "My sister, Jerry and Ayla were all complete. They were meant to be, the family of three was perfect."

Ms Madill was cremated in France and her ashes will be interred at her family's Cree Native American Reserve.

Ayla, now nearly 4 months old, was injured in the smash but is now safely in Canada with Ms Madill's parents, Ruth and Darrell Madill.

Ahead of the funeral baby Ayla met her paternal grandparents Frank and Galuia Collins, for the first time.

Along with kisses and cuddles from her dad's family, Ayla also joined them to watch the family's native Samoa, where Collins was born, defeat Canada 21-20 in the Pacific Nations Cup match in Toronto on Thursday.

The poignant clash prompted Madill's sister, Nora Dureau, to post on her Facebook page that she hoped the battle ended in a tie.

In response, Brenda Collins wrote that: "Ayla smiled and laughed as both national anthems played."

Another poster praised the baby for being "diplomatic already" to which Dureau replied that the cherished tot "has the best aunties and best nationalities".
