Beach cleans up in Wellington this weekend found a whole lot of waste in our seas.
430 kilograms of rubbish was removed from the sea floor by divers near Greta Point in Evans Bay yesterday.
Ghost Fishing Club Captain Tom Moody says a range of things were found.
"Some laptops, some cellphones, some crockery, fishing gear, tyres [and] road cones," he said.
He says the biggest haul was bottles and plastic particles.
"On a recent dive we actually recovered two ceramic toilets," he added.
The Petone Beach clean-up crew were out on Saturday and also found a lot of plastic.
Coordinator Lorraine Shaab says they collected 14 big rubbish bags of micro-plastics and plastic fragments.
"Not a lot of big rubbish, so it was a huge haul considering we're finding small pieces of rubbish.,"
