There'll be no power across much of the Far North today.
Lines company Top Energy is cutting the supply from about 8am so it can carry out essential work on the supply line to Kaitaia and make repairs following last year's storms.
The power is likely to be off until 5pm.
A separate outage will affect Taipa, Coopers Beach and Mangonui from 5pm to 6pm as supply is switched from temporary generators back onto the network.
Civil Defence says people need to be prepared, because nine hours is a long time to be without power.
It advises perhaps visiting friends or relatives outside the region, but also making sure elderly or less-mobile family members are cared for.
Authorities say the outage has been well publicised.
