New Zealand First is again going in to bat for those who can't afford pay TV.

Sky Sports has rights to show the Winter Olympics in New Zealand, and shows some delayed coverage on its free-to-air channel Prime.

New Zealand First MP Clayton Mitchell says it's not enough.

He says exposing kids to sport has important and positive health and social outcomes.

Mitchell says it's especially the case when taxpayers are footing some of costs of getting athletes there in the first place.

"We're already investing in sport, to the tune of a billion dollars, and why wouldn't we even consider looking at this being something we further support."
