Updated 1.52pm: Labour's up in the polls, but the party isn't opening the bubbly any time soon.

The latest 3News Reid Research Poll has Labour up four percent since election night to 29.1 - while National's up 2.8 to 49.8 percent and minor parties are losing ground.

But Labour leader Andrew Little says there's still work to do.

"If the numbers are pointing in the right direction that's good, but we've got a lot of numbers to make up and a lot of people to convince."

Little admits he has work to do convincing people he's the man to lead the country, and that now isn't the time to be cocky.

"I feel good about it, but also I know that we've only just started to address some of the issues that we know needed to be fixed up."

Mr Little's presiding over a two day caucus retreat in Martinborough and says there's a positive feel in the Labour camp.

"People are in a good space, we're on board, we're getting our ideas out there. I'm confident that we'll have a good plan, and be fit and ready to go when Parliament kicks off."

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
