UPDATED 4:37pm: Labour MP Carmel Sepuloni is back in her Social Development role.

She was stood down from the role late last month after news broke that her mother, Beverley Sepuloni, was facing benefit fraud charges.

Labour leader Andrew Little says it's important to remember Carmel Sepuloni has done nothing wrong.

Beverley Sepuloni has been sentenced in the New Plymouth District Court today.

She was sentenced to four and a half months home detention, 250 hours of community service and and fined $15,000.

Sepuloni failed to declare to government authorities she had commenced a relationship with her partner Michael Rangi.

They had previously pleaded guilty to 23 charges of social development fraud, where they had defrauded the state of up to $100,000.

Rangi's been sentenced to six months home detention, 200 hours community service and has also been fined $15,000 dollars.
