Another $500 million is needed for the police to be able to do their jobs, according to Labour.
They're hoping more funding will be announced, when the Government reveals its Budget tomorrow.
Labour's police spokesperson Stuart Nash said cops have had a funding freeze for the last five years, which has forced them to absorb 300-million in increased operating costs.
"And we've talked about burglary resolution rates being below 10 per cent we're talking about the road budget being cut by $17 million and 24 more people in the first quarter of this year. The stats just do not look good."
Nash said the thin blue line is increasingly stretched.
"Over the last five years the Police themselves have said they've had to absorb $300 million in operational costs while not having an increase in their budget."
