The Prime Minister has today acknowledged that some of our troops could be in Iraq, although he's stopped short of publicly confirming it.

NewstalkZB reported last week some New Zealand troops went to Iraq with the first deployment of Australians.

John Key was asked to confirm it but continued to be evasive.

"I don't know the answer to that. I need to check that.

"There are some people - it's not a straightforward picture because people have gone to Australia and back. There may well be some people who are in Iraq. I'm not aware of that.

"It's quite possible that there are some people there."
