Green Party co-leader hopefuls continue to press case

All the contenders vying for a spot leading the Green Party are trumpeting their ability to work with the other co-leader, Metiria Turei.

Kevin Hague, Vernon Tava, Gareth Hughes and James Shaw stopped in on Wellington today, as part of their tour around the country, competing to become the new male co-leader.

James Shaw says he already has a very strong relationship with Ms Turei.

"I've worked very closely with her over the last few years, including on a number of her speeches and now in caucus, so I'm excited about the opportunity of working alongside her."

Parties to work with

Hughes, Hague, and Shaw are sticking to the party line of working with National issue-by-issue, but not forming a government with them.

But Auckland lawyer Tava, the only contender not currently in Parliament, says the Green Party should work with anyone.

"My future vision is that they be at the centre of every government. I think the problems we face are too urgent for us to continue sitting on the sidelines."
