Phil Goff appears to have a commanding lead in the race for the Auckland mayoralty.

However, almost 44 percent signalled they didn't know who they were going to vote for.

Goff has 31.2 percent support among voters in a poll commissioned by the Spinoff, in association with Jennings Murphy.

Victoria Crone is the next closest challenge with 8 percent support, followed by John Palino with 4.1 percent

But Penny Bright, at 2.4 percent, is rating ahead of Mark Thomas, who's on 1.7 percent.

David Hay is also polling above 1 percent, and 2.9 percent of those polled said they would vote for a different candidate in the field.

When taking decided voters only into account, Mr Goff has 60.3 percent support.

The poll sampled 760 people and has a margin of error of 3.6 percent.
