Updated 2.50pm: There are fresh demands for clarity being made over the allegations swirling around National MP Mike Sabin.

There's been widespread speculation the Law and Order Select Committee chair is, or has been, subject to a criminal investigation - a matter neither he nor police will provide definitive comment on.

Green MP, and fellow committee member, David Clendon says given the level of conjecture and speculation that's been rife in Northland for several months now, it's time there was some clarity.

"If there is an issue to be confronted, then I I think it's to everyone's advantage to be bought into the daylight," he says.

"To simply hide behind 'no comment' , to refuse to engage with the issue, I think is not helpful least of all for Mr Sabin, frankly."

New Zealand First's Winston Peters says it's untenable - and John Key needs to break his silence and clarify the situation.
