ACT angry tax cuts not in Budget

The Act Party is not happy the Government has not addressed tax cuts in the Budget.

Debt repayment is taking priority instead, with tax cuts explicitly left out of Budget forecasts.

ACT Party Leader David Seymour said the most important thing missing from the Budget is tax relief.

He is accusing National of taxing like a Labour Government.

"The best that they can say to us is 'apopo, apopo, apopo'. As they say in Maori, 'tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow'. It shows the priority of this Government."

However, tax cuts do look to be back on the agenda, with Treasury predicting surpluses out into the future.

The issue for the Government is whether to include them in next year's Budget or campaign on them.

But John Key is upbeat.

"The economy is producing more tax at a faster rate than they had originally predicted.

"So we'll wait and see in terms of what we think are the priorities what we want to have in Budget 2017 and what we want to camaign on, but there's $14 billion worth of predicted surplasses in that period between 2017 and 2020."
