Organisers are thrilled to finally see the World Masters Games in action.
There are 28,000 people taking part in competition in Auckland and Hamilton.
The first event of today was the Road Race time trial in downtown Auckland at 7.30 this morning.
Sailors, swimmers, netballers, runners and hockey players are among the other sports people who will be in action.
World Masters Games CEO Jennah Wootten said it's incredibly special seeing the events come to life.
"After four and a half years planning, to see our 25,000 athletes finally here, to see the smiles on their faces, to see them enjoying all that we've put together- that's what it's all about and that's what we've been working towards for a very long time."
