The start of winter is going to be warmer and drier according to NIWA.
The weather agency has released its seasonal outlook for May through to July.
Forecaster Chris Brandolino says temperatures are most likely to be average or above average for all regions of New Zealand.
If you want to be warm and dry, the central and eastern parts of the North Island - they have the greatest chances for above average temperatures."
Brandolino adds that the slightly warmer temperatures will mean money saved on electricity bills.
"Odds are you may have lower utility bills, lower electric bills because maybe you use heating less often. That doesn't mean there won't be cold snaps."
