Wendy's will have a fight on its hands if it has another crack at selling alcohol to its Christchurch patrons.
The burger joint has withdrawn its application for a liquor licence to sell beer and cider to dine-in customers in Hornby.
The proposal drew public backlash, with hundreds of people making submissions against the plans.
Riccarton-Wigram Community Board chair Mike Mora said it shows how powerful the community can be.
"I'm really, really pleased that people took the effort to actually put submissions in and show their opposition.
However, Wendy's said it may lodge another application in the future.
Wigram MP Megan Woods had some advice.
"The learnings that Wendy's will have to take from this is that you can't just impose on a neighbourhood the fact that you're going to radically change things, and that's what was amounted to with the Hornby proposal."
