Ten year passports will be available in time for the Christmas holidays.

The Passports Amendment Bill has passed today, enabling New Zealanders to be issued with a passport for 10 years instead of the current five.

It'll be available in approximately six weeks from November the 30th.

The new passports will cost no more than 180 dollars, which is an average saving of 90 dollars over the 10 year period.
