UPDATED 12.02PM Auckland councillors have rubber stamped a shared bike path and walkway across the Harbour Bridge.

They've given a green light for the SkyPath to go ahead with private backing.

Councillors considered the project this morning.

There've been concerns about whether dogs should be allowed on the path with or without a leash, but there was unanimous support.

SkyPath will be built and maintained by HRL Morrison and Co's Public Infrastructure Partnership Fund, with topping-up from the council should it not be profitable after it's built.

The council's Finance and Performance Committee approved it last week - but today saw a final OK given, with a few amendments made.
