A man has been rescued from the sea off Northland, after his yacht hit rocks and sank.
The vessel began taking on water at Motukawiti Island, about 4 kilometres from Matauri Bay.
By the time rescuers got to the scene, only the yacht's mast and sails were above the water.
The skipper was found swimming for his life, and has been taken to Whangaroa Harbour.
