Frustrations around pay inequality are coming to a head today with a series of nationwide rallies.

Hundreds are taking to the streets in pay equity rallies around the the country.

Spokeswoman for Pay Equity Coalition Auckland says the gender pay gap sits at around 13 per cent because work in care and support roles is not valued.

She said women have gone under-paid for too long, and hopes the issues is taken seriously this election.

Ms Beaumont said the pay gap has big consequences of women's abilities to support families, pay for housing and save for retirement.

In Wellington, people are dancing through Cuba Mall, as hundred turn out to rallies for pay equity around the country.

Pay Equity Coalition says the gender pay gap of around 13 per cent means women find in harder to afford live, save and support their family.

Wellington Spokesman Angela McLeod said women have been pushing for equality pay for too long and it's about time politicians came up with a fair solution.
