A week on from the Tauranga Harbour oil spill and the cleanup is still in full swing.

Twenty one tonnes of oiled debris has been collected from the harbour.

The cleanup is focused in six key areas, the Bridge Marina, Pilot, Sandy and Shelley Bays and Maungatapu and Motuopuhi Islands.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council On-Scene Commander, Peter Buell says it's going well but they're not there yet.

"We're not winding down on operations at all, we're still going out full board to make sure we get this cleaned up as best as possible."

Sorbent booms are still soaking up large amounts of oil in the Bridge Marina in the Tauranga Harbour. Buell says the booms are an effective way to get oil out of the water.

"We have a lot of booms underneath the wharf. They're doing a very good job in collecting fuel there. As the boom get full we replace them with new ones."
