The All Whites have recalled two key defenders for next week's tour of the USA.

Captain Winston Reid and Phoenix skipper Andrew Durante have been named in the squad for the games against the USA and Mexico.

Reid hasn't played for New Zealand since the one all draw against Myanmar in July of last year, while Durante last wore the white jersey in September 2014.

Coach Anthony Hudson said it's pleasing to be able to recall such key players.

"We've got four or five players who have not been with us for a long time and are coming back - Winston is obviously the main one. We're pleased - we've got a good squad."

Goalkeeper Glen Moss has been overlooked with Stefan Marinovic, Tamati Williams and Jake Gleeson selected.

Netherlands based midfielder Ryan Thomas has also been recalled, having overcome a broken leg earlier this year.

Chesterfield defender Liam Graham is the only new cap in the squad, while injuries ruled out Bill Tuiloma, Thomas Doyle, Louis Fenton and Storm Roux.
