Gone are the days of switching off the phone over a summer holiday.
Research from rental firm Bachcare shows most Kiwis want some sort of internet connection at a holiday home.
But founder Leslie Preston says contrary to what you might think, it's not so they can keep up with work."The vast majority of people are saying, 'no way am I doing work while I'm on holiday'.
"So it's all just about being on social networks and letting people know what they're doing on holiday.
"Preston says the classic bach is still alive and well - for now.
"But what we're finding now is more and more Kiwis are preferring modern and even luxury holiday homes moreso than the classic bach."
At least one tradition is surviving - almost everyone wants their beach holiday to include a good gas barbecue.
Leslie Preston says the ability to book a bach immediately online is also becoming incredibly important for holidaymakers.
