A hearing date has been set for submissions on a subdivision planned for Coromandel's New Chum Beach.

The subdivision relates to a four lot subdivision on 60.7 hectares on land behind the beach.

When development in the area was proposed five years ago it attracted backlash from from thousands of beach goers and household names like TV host Phil Keoghan, rugby star Richard Kahui and actress Robyn Malcolm.

The Thames Coromandel District Council have received 187 submissions with over 80 requesting to be heard.

A hearing has been set for the first week of May and is expected to run for a week.
