Parliament has stood united behind legislation aimed at supporting victims of domestic abuse.

MP Jan Logie has had unanimous support for the first reading of her Member's Bill, which will allow abuse victims to get 10 days of paid leave from their employers.

There's been passionate support for it from all political parties including from Justice Minister Amy Adams - who's delivered a critical assessment of the country's domestic violence problem.

It's a result Ms Logie hopes will help abuse victims.

"For all those people who have been fighting for this for so long, and those women who went back because they had no other choice, or felt that they couldn't get out, I hope tonight gives you some courage."

Ms Logie said domestic violence is something we all have a stake in reducing, and she's welcomed the support she's received.

"Let's be bold together" she told parliament.

It will now go to select committee for further consideration.
