An Anzac service in Auckland today will be the first of many to come.

There are eight more weeks until the hundredth anniversary of New Zealand's landing on the Gallipoli Coast.

Curnard Lines spokesman David Jones says it's important occasion to recognise.

He says during the Gallipoli campaign many New Zealand troops gave their lives for their country.

Today's service will take place on the deck of a cruise ship which is on its way to Gallipoli.

David Jones says there'll be tributes to loved ones who lost their lives.

One of the special guests lost his grandfather and three great-uncles in the Gallipoli campaign.

He says the commemoration service is going to be an emotional affair and a powerful day.
