Sir Maarten Wevers has been removed as Earthquake Commission chairman, as the government bids to resolve the 2,600 claims still outstanding from the Christchurch quakes seven years ago.
Minister in charge of the Commission Megan Woods says she's accepted Sir Maarten's resignation and will appoint an interim chairman next week.
Woods will also appoint an independent ministerial advisor to work with the board and the EQC management to come up with a plan to get an early settlement of the claims.
She says she's not satisfied with where the EQC's at when it comes to Canterbury earthquake work, so far on from the disaster.
"I've made it clear I am not satisfied with where EQC is in respect of the Canterbury earthquake work seven years on from the February 22nd event," she said on Friday.
"For the around 2600 people with unresolved claims, being stuck in limbo is unacceptable - we've got to see faster progress for these people so they can get their lives back on track."
