A Christchurch cat owner is counting the costs of a vicious attack on his beloved pet.

Steve Constable's Bengal cat Misty was shot in the shoulder and stomach and left for dead, just over a week ago.

Lauren Constable says her father has had to fork out $6000 to keep Misty alive.

She said Misty has had one leg amputated but is doing well.

"It's just horrible. I don't think it's acceptable that people are going round and doing these things."

"It just hurts so much."

Nearly $300 has been raised so far on a Give-a-little page, set up to contribute to Misty's ongoing vet costs.
