A new campaign to dispel the myth that practical workforce roles are a male's domain kicks off this month.
It's called 'Girls with High Vis.'
The industry training organisation Connexis wants to attract more women to roles in the power, roading and telecommunications industries...
And chief executive Helmut Modlik says they're reaching out to those related to men already in the sector.
"The sisters, the wives, the friends, the cousins, the women in those employees' lives to come along, see what is done in the trades and technical roles within those companies to see in fact if that's not a possibility for them."
The percentage of women in a trade is in single figures, and the initiative 'Girls with High Vis' aims to change that.
Modlik says the intellectual capability and the hands-on side of this work would be handled just as well by women.
"Good career prospects, there's good income and it's a great lifestyle for those who like working with their hands and working outdoors if that's part of their preferences."
