Those charged with protecting the country's borders have had a busy December.
Figures released today reveal passenger numbers at the country's airports were up 5% for the month compared to the previous year - the busiest they've been since the customs service was created 175 years ago.
In total 540,000 people entered the country last December, 25,000 more than for same period in 2013.
