UPDATED 11:51AM Three landslides have hit a building in the tourist town of Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park near Queenstown.

An ambulance service spokeswoman says they received a call about 10.20am following reports of a landslide on Milford Sound Highway.

She told NZ Newswire paramedics were stood down before they arrived at the scene as it was believed no one was inside the buildings.

The spokeswoman says she was told a number of buildings were hit, although she couldn't confirm reports that a workshop beside the Milford Sound Visitor Centre was impacted.

Firefighters remain at the scene.

The landslide comes after a wild night of weather caused by a southerly that swept up the country, bringing heavy snow, hail and severe gales to some areas.

DOC Spokesperson Andrea Crawford said they'll know more soon.

"Our Fiordland senior ranger is on his way to Milford Sound to investigate the landslide, and we're working with the Milford Development Authority to ascertain the situation."
