The mother of a murdered Christchurch teen says she'll be taking her petition for change to the Australian public.

Tina Bayliss launched a petition earlier this month calling for tighter monitoring conditions on returning criminals, which has gained almost 40,000 signatures.

Her daughter Jade was killed by Jeremy McLaughlin, who had already served time in Australia for bludgeoning a teenager to death.

She says that the response in New Zealand has been incredible.

"It's been overwhelming. I'm pretty chuffed with the response that we've got so far. It's starting to slow down an awful lot now though.

"Hopefully, fingers crossed, I'm going to try and get it out into the Australian side of things."
