All Blacks backs shuffled for Wallabies clash

It’s an odd switch at the back that’s the most interesting feature of the All Blacks team to face the Wallabies this weekend.

It will please many that Ben Smith has been switched to fullback, however he is more experienced on the right than Israel Dagg who moves to that position.

While the All Blacks selectors view back three positions as requiring similar skill sets, it does seems to indicate a desire to get their vice-captain into his best position.

Coach Steve Hansen says they are giving themselves more options.

"We know that Bender and Izzy have been operating pretty good around the other way, but going forward it would be nice to know Izzy can start on the wing, and that then allows us to play bender back at fullback."

There are four changes to starting side with Joe Moody and Dane Coles returning to the pack, Julian Savea on the left wing, and Anton Lienert-Brown will make his All Blacks debut, as Ryan Crotty’s replacement at second five.

Hansen has every confidence in Lienert-Brown's ability to step up.

"He's probably coming into a test match a little earlier than we'd normally do with the young guys, but he's trained really well, a quick learner, and he's showed real confidence and mental fortitude. It looks like he can handle what we're about to throw at him."

The full team is Moody, Coles, Franks, Retallick, Whitelock, Kaino, Cane, Read (captain) Aaron Smith, Barrett, Julian Savea, Leinert-Brown, Fekitoa, Dagg and Ben Smith.

The reserves are Parsons, Crockett, Faumuina, Squire, Ardie Savea, Perenara, Cruden and Tamanivalu.
