A $3.7 million cycleway project in Addington has been give the go ahead by the council's Infrastructure,Transport and Environment Committee.
Work on the project is expected to start construction later this year and involves new cycleways being built from Moorhouse Avenue through Church Square, to Barrington Street.
Committee chairperson Phil Clearwater said over 120 submissions were made on the proposal.
"So I think that's a sign of really good community engagement with the local people."
Clearwater said the work is relatively low cost.
"It isn't the high amount compared with some of the cycleways, particularly because there's already quite a lot constructed along the route of the Southern Motorway.
