UPDATED 3:15pm: Customs and police have intercepted almost 23kgs of meth hidden in the cargo of an international flight which arrived in Auckland from Taiwan.

The drug is worth $22 million.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Parmenter says this is the second largest border seizure in history, with 95kgs intercepted in an operation in 2006.

He says the seizure took place on December 5.

Two Taiwanese nationals have been charged with imported methamphetamine and possession for supply.

Customs Manager of Investigations, Maurice O'Brein, says the sophisticated concealment method and large quantity show the risks organised crime groups are willing to take.

The pair have been charged with importing methamphetamine and possession of meth for supply.

They've been remanded in custody and will be back in the Manukau District Court in April.
