McDonald's proposes menu changes

Fans of McDonald's breakfast menu but who struggle with its 10.30am cut-off may be in luck, the world's largest hamburger fast-food chain has announced it is trialling all-day breakfasts at select restaurants in San Diego and if successful, the menu change could be rolled out on a wider scale.

"We know our customers love McDonald's breakfast, and they tell us they'd like to enjoy it beyond the morning hours," McDonald's spokeswoman Terri Hickey told the Guardian.

"So next month, we will begin testing all-day breakfast at select restaurants in the San Diego area,"

The company has previously put the lack of breakfast options after 10.30am down to limited grill space.

McDonald's New Zealand spokesman Simon Kenny said they were aware of the trial and would be monitoring its success.

"McDonald's in New Zealand trialled an all-day breakfast a number of years ago," Kenny said.

"At the time it wasn't hugely popular, so they ended the trial.

"On the flip side, a couple of years ago we trialled cheese burgers available at breakfast, as that was something customers said they'd be interested in.

"Again, it wasn't hugely popular. In saying that, we're always listening to what our customers are thinking, through channels like our Facebook page and our My Macca's Review app.

"We'll be interested to see how the San Diego trial goes, and continue to talk to New Zealand customers about what they want to see from us here."
