An Auckland teenager is waiting to hear if she's the latest to contract the Zika virus, after spending a week on holiday in Tonga.

So far there have been 10 confirmed cases here - all of them contracted Zika overseas.

Doctors in Auckland haven't been able to tell Jen Byrn what the long-term consequences might be if she does have it.

Her mother has told NZME her daughter is feeling much better, but is still waiting for test results.

Tonga’s chief medical officer has declared an outbreak of the Zika virus...there are five confirmed cases there and another 259 suspected cases.
