Updated 3.51pm: Author and Man Booker Prize winner Eleanor Catton's got at least one politician in her corner.

The writer's hit out at the Government saying it's led by "neo-liberal, profit-obsessed, very shallow, very money-hungry politicians who do not care about culture".

The Prime Minister's responded saying Ms Catton's been aligned with the Greens and that's likely their view of his government

But Labour Leader Andrew Little says Eleanor Catton is calling it as she sees it.

He says the creative and expressive arts do need to be supported and if she feels they're not then it should be looked at.

Green Party Co-Leader Metiria Turei says Eleanor Catton is entitled to her views and those who abuse her are being childish.

"She certainly doesn't deserve any of the abuse that she is getting as a result of making these comments."
