UPDATED 5.35PM: Two people have been flown to Waikato hospital following a crash in the Karangahake Gorge, in the Bay of Plenty.

A bus collided with a car.

One person was trapped in the car and is in critical condition, while the car's other occupant is in moderate condition.

The road was closed for the helicopter to land, and will stay closed while the Police Serious Crash Unit investigates.

Nobody on the bus was injured.
