UPDATED 12.35pm: Auckland Police are trying to identify a man who was found dead on Orewa Beach this morning.

His body was found at the northern end of the beach near cliffs just after 7.30am.

Search and Rescue staff are checking the cliffs in hopes to find belongings and a Police helicopter has photographed the scene.

The person appears to be an Asian male in his mid 20s and has no identification on him.

He was wearing black track pants, a hooded sweatshirt and orange socks.
