UPDATED 2.41PM: Police are making inquiries into the whereabouts of a man after an Auckland street was put into lockdown by armed police.

Terry Street in Blockhouse Bay has been re-opened, but it was cordoned off and residents were warned to stay indoors about 11:30am.

It happened after reports a woman was being threatened by a man who was known to her.

Police say the man wasn't found and it's unclear at this stage whether he committed any offence, so a warrant for his arrest hasn't been issued.
