A teenager has been arrested and a man left fighting for his life after a stabbing in Christchurch.
The 19-year-old man was arrested after the incident at a house on Northcote Rd, Northcote about 2am today.
The victim, a 43-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
In a statement, police said a section of Northcote Rd was cordoned off while a scene examination is completed.
According to NZTA the road reopened about 10am.
Police were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
The incident follows reports of a stabbing in Invercargill yesterday afternoon.
A person was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an alleged assault on Janet St, Strathern at 5pm.
A police spokeswoman had no further details about the incident, and couldn't confirm reports a man had been stabbed.
