Police would like to hear from the public regarding a group of people on a crime spree in Hamilton.

The group of six men and a woman have stolen cars to commit robberies and make vicious threats.

A dairy and a liquor store were raided last night at around 7pm, leaving the dairy owner injured when he was hit with a weapon resembling a crowbar.

Police say the robbers are using a stolen blue Mazda Demio - DZC148, and a stolen black Familia - ECR885.

A number of people have come forward and provided information, Detective Sergeant Nicola Cornes said.

But she said police don't know the identities of the thieves yet and are warning people to call 111 if they see the cars, and to stay well away from the group.

A scene examination is underway at both stores.
