UPDATED 6:02pm: The family of Shalvin Prasad is relieved two men have been found guilty of his murder.

Shivneel Kumar and Bryne Permal were jointly charged with Mr Prasad's murder after his burned remains were found near a roadside in south Auckland in January 2013.

The jury at the High Court in Auckland had been deliberating since midday on Wednesday before returning a verdict this afternoon.

Family members of all three burst into tears as the verdict was read out, along with some jury members.

Brother Pravin Prasad says it's been a difficult few days waiting for a verdict.

"I would like to thank the jury for the time and effort that they've dedicated for the past four weeks. They have done a tremendous job considering the nasty details they had to sit through in order to come up with the verdict today."

Detective Inspector Dave Lynch of Counties Manukau Police says the verdict is a great result for Mr Prasad’s family following a thorough investigation.

“We’ve had a great team of investigators working hard on this case and we’re pleased to be able to deliver this result for Shalvin’s family.”

Inspector Lynch thanked his officers for their work on the case.

"The parents are obviously very happy, they're also expecting their first grandchild as well. Now that the stress of the trial is gone they're just very thankful for the result."

The men will be sentenced in May.
