UPDATED 12.50PM: The judge overseeing the trial of Troy Taylor has given the jury clear guidelines on how to reach their verdict.
Taylor’s pleaded not guilty to murdering Ihaka Stokes in July 2015.
During the two week trial at the High Court in Christchurch, he’s blamed the 15-month-old's mother Mikala Stokes, for inflicting the 59 injuries Ihaka suffered.
In summing up, Justice Cameron Mander has told the jury they must remain unaffected by emotion.
He says they must come to the verdicts solely based from the evidence put before the court.
"If after the careful consideration of all the evidence you are sure that mister Taylor is guilty, then you are duty bound by your oath and affirmation to find him guilty."
"If you are not sure, then you would acquit."
The jury has now retired to consider the verdict.Â
