The police file on the death of a Wellington woman remains open after a Coroner failed to determine what killed her.

Sofia Athanassiou was found lying in bush off a walking track above Wellington East Girls' College in July 2012.

The 29-year-old had bruising to her face, stomach and knuckles and a small wound near her ear.

However there was no evidence these injuries contributed to her death.

She also had a history of substance abuse and mental disorders.

Her partner Daniel Johnston alerted runners and walkers that she needed medical help, but left the area when they called emergency services.

Coroner Garry Evans asserts Mr Johnston did not answer certain questions and gave differing versions of events of why he left her alone to die.

Evans was unable to form a full picture of what occurred and the police file will remain open.
